CT DEP: Boating Frequently Asked Questions

Connecticut DEP has provided all current boating regulations online. These regulations apply to safe boating certificates, certificates of personal watercraft (jet ski) operation, boating courses, boat registration, marine enforcement, rules of navigation, and more.

The State of CT DEP announces some significant changes to boating regulation effective March 9, 2004.

What if I fail the written test?
Students are NOT automatically entitled to retake the test. At our discretion, we may allow you to retake the test (not the entire class)  ONCE ONLY at select locations. The procedure is to contact Henry Moore at 1-888-267-0559 ext 201 and tell him the location of the class that you failed. It is quite likely that you will not be taking the test at the same location as your original class. You must pay the instructor $5.00 and he or she will allow you to take the test. You will not receive a completion certificate from the instructor if you pass. The Course Completion Certificate will be sent to you by mail when we have verified your attendance at the earlier class. You may retest ONCE, so please study for it.

What if I lose my Course Completion Certificate?
We strongly encourage everyone to apply for their operating certificate as soon as possible after completing the course. Most of our records are NOT computerized, so there is a charge of $20 per year that you want searched, regardless of whether or not we find evidence of your attendance at one of our classes. Please send your name, phone number, date of birth, class location, month and year of the class if known. to: Professional Marine Education, PO Box 41, Goshen, CT 06756. Payment of $20 per year should be included with the inquiry.
