Henry Moore, Owner & Instructor

Henry Moore has been instructing safety classes since 1980 when he volunteered for the American National Red Cross. Topics included CPR, and basic or advanced first aid.

His direct open water experience is an accumulation of childhood off shore adventures with his family throughout New England on various size motor vessels. Scuba diving, fishing, as well as boating activities at his residence on Tyler Lake and membership at Woodridge Lake in Goshen make Henry a credible and interesting instructor.

Bill Szturma, Instructor

Bill Szturma has been a boater since 1975 when he purchased his first used Grady White 19’ Sportsman. He has been cruising on Long Island Sound and on Ct. lakes and rivers for over 30 years and still considers boating as his favorite passion.

Bill served in the Navy as a Sonarman and “Tin Can” sailor aboard the destroyer USS Hazelwood, DD-531, during the 1960’s. Chasing submarines around the Atlantic Ocean during ASW exercises and shadowing Russian subs kept him busy when he wasn’t studying or performing other crewman duties.

Bill enjoyed two different work careers that help to give him a unique perspective as a Professional Marine Services Boating Instructor. He worked in the electronics and computer industry for over 25 years and also spent 13 years in the education field as a teacher and administrator in the Vocational Technical High School and in the Connecticut Community College Systems.

“I stress safety, common sense, and preparedness in my classes," says Bill. “I love to teach and to pass on my personal experiences to my students”. “I also want everyone to appreciate that boating is a wonderful experience that carries with it a responsibility to respect the water and our fellow boaters”.

Grant Hagedorn, Instructor

Grant Hagedorn has been with Professional Marine since 2004.  Currently working as a Trainer for a leading global manufacturer of laser technology and sheet metal fabrication equipment, he has a Bachelors Degree from Southern Illinois University.  A native son of the great state of Minnesota he spent his youth waterskiing, fishing and canoeing the land of 10,000 Lakes and Southern Ontario.  Looking for bigger water led him to the Navy, where he served for 21 years retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 2000.

Through his classes, his love of training and his love of the water all come together to make him an outstanding instructor.  He enjoys sharing his knowledge, passion, and his respect for the water with everyone.
